10 WAYS TO PLAY WITH OUR CHRISTMAS PLAYDOUGH KIT

10 WAYS TO PLAY WITH OUR CHRISTMAS PLAYDOUGH KIT

Playdough play is such a fun and powerful way to support your child’s learning by allowing your little one to use their imagination, get creative by squishing, rolling, moulding and more. It is such a great way to strengthen a child’s fine motor skills.

Fine motor skills are so important because children need it for writing, cutting, grasping objects and more. Playdough is also calming for children, supports literacy and numeracy skills and helps with hand-eye coordination.

When playdough is combined with loose parts trinkets it creates more opportunities to learn through play, problem solve and build on their language development.

Our Christmas playdough kits come with loads of sparkly Christmas loose part trinkets for endless open ended play opportunities! At Love and Giggles we select pieces that can be used over and over again with different types of sensory bases as well as simple to set up science experiments.

Give your little ones a dough-lightful Christmas and check out our list below of 10 ways to play with our Christmas playdough kit.

3. Snow
Add two cups of flour, 300g of corn flour, 3 tablespoons of sugar, 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar and a bit of water in a small tub and mix together. Add a bit of water at a time so it’s not too runny. When you’re happy with the consistency, add the trinkets with a dash of silver glitter and put this in the fridge overnight. When ready to play, grab some spoons and bowls or cups and let them explore and create. Pop it back in the fridge and play with it again next time!

4. Save Christmas
Add water to a small tub with the trinkets and a bit of glitter. Pop this into the freezer overnight. When it's ready, let your little ones discover what happens when you sprinkle salt over the ice and squirt or pour warm water over the top! It makes the ice melt faster so they can save Santa!

5. Hidden trinkets
Wrap each trinket in foil or Christmas wrapping paper and hide this in coloured sensory rice in a tub. Present this to your little one  to find, unwrap and scoop or pour into a cup or bowl. You could even practice count and sort the trinkets after they find it.

Use masking tape and tape each trinket down onto any safe surface for your child to peel off. You can make a game out of it by asking them to find and 2 Santa’s, find 3 cookies for Santa etc.

7. Fizzing fun

8. Find Santa’s cookies
Create a scavenger hunt and hide clues around the house for your little one to find all the cookie trinkets. Some examples of clues could be “If you’re hungry where do you eat? Finding us here would be a treat.” “We’re tired and we need to rest! We think the bedroom is best.”

9. Grab the candy canes
Get an empty cardboard box and draw a Christmas tree, then create some holes for the candy canes and let your child pull these out and pop them back in. The other trinkets can be used to decorate the tree by placing a bit of playdough on the back of each trinket and sticking it on to the box.

10. Sort and count
If you have some spare paper roll tubes, tape one trinket on to each tube and tape the tubes on to a wall. Ask your littles to count and sort the trinkets. Just add a cup or bowl under each tube to collect the trinkets under each paper roll tube.

These activities were so much fun to create and the excitement and conversations as well as getting to see all the creations my littles made were priceless. We hope you love our Christmas kit as much as we did putting it together!
